Awards and Recognition Process

Advancement and Award Subsidy for senior branches

Ontario and Nunavut Council is trying something new this year. We’ll be offering a subsidy of $100 for each Guide, Pathfinder, Trex, and Ranger unit that are recorded in iMIS. We encourage units to connect and plan a community event using the subsidy. Each unit will need to apply for the subsidy separately. We suggest units host events from late April through the end of June.

Eligibility:

  • Guide, Pathfinder, Trex and Ranger units are eligible for funding if one or more youth members are receiving the Canada Cord, Trail Blazer Leadership Award - Gold Award, Lady Baden-Powell Award or Outstanding Youth Award.
  • Each eligible unit (Guides, Pathfinders, Trex, Rangers) within a community can apply for $100. If multiple units come together for an event, they may pool the funds for a larger ceremony (e.g., 3 units = $300). Each unit will need to apply for the subsidy separately. This will need to be managed by the unit treasurers and they will need to submit all receipts via unified banking as usual.
  • Once approved, funds will be deposited into the unit bank account.
  • Units have discretion over how they wish to use the funds (whether for a solo event or a joint event with other units).
  • The ceremony must take place in Spring 2026.

Application process for funding:

Available funding:

  • Each approved unit will receive $100 which will be deposited into their unified banking account up to a maximum of 200 approved unit applications.

Planning tips for a Local Recognition Ceremony:

Include girl and youth members in the planning process. Prompt them with questions such as::
  • How many girls/units would you like to invite?
  • What theme should the ceremony have?
  • Where and when will it be held?
  • How long will the ceremony last?
  • Who else should we invite?

Invite guest speakers and special guests:

It is the responsibility of the planning team if you wish to invite your mayor or other local dignitary.  ON Council cannot support these requests. You may also consider inviting a member of ON Council to your event. To submit an invitation, complete the Council and Youth Forum Invitation.

Include other members in your community:

If you would like contact information for units that are local to you, you can access some of this yourself by clicking on My Roster on Member Zone. There, you will find a list of local units and their contact information.

Planning tools:

These tools are for reference only, to assist you with the recommended items to consider when planning a ceremony. We will continue to update these documents into early spring.
