Travel Opportunities

Photos of NL Girl Guide trips, summer 2023

The primary purpose of travel is to provide a girl-focused experience where Guiders support girls in meeting the travel objectives and to support Girl Guide programming. GGC will not approve any trip experience of which the itinerary is for the most part entertainment and/or vacation based.

Each year many Girl Guides of Canada groups travel to the World Centres: Our Cabana (Mexico), Our Chalet (Switzerland), Pax Lodge (England); Sangam (India). International travel involves between 18 months to two years of planning and fundraising. For information on planning an independent international or interprovincial trip, please see below.

If you have questions about travel, please contact nl-international@girlguides.ca.

Independent Travel

Each GGC travel group, whether it’s an independent group trip or provincially sponsored trip, needs to ensure that Safe Guide procedures are followed. Safe Guide planning resources are available on Member Zone Safe Guide International Travel over 72 hours page (requires Member Zone login)

Preauthorization of Travel

The SG.8 (travel preauthorization form) must be approved BEFORE commencing planning for Travel in Canada or all International Travel. Please submit your SG.8A and SG.8B or IT.11 to nl-safeguidetravel@girlguides.ca with a copy to nl-international@girlguides.ca

Fundraising for Travel

Once the SG.8 approval is received, complete the FR.1 (Application for Fundraising Approval) and attach the approved SG.8. It should then be submitted to nl-fundraising@girlguides.ca for approval.

Fundraising for travel can only begin after both the SG.8 and the FR.1 have been approved. All members (adults and girls) and units must follow all GGC policies and guidelines for fundraising. See the Member Zone Fundraising page for more information. (requires Member Zone login).

New Trip Unit Creation Process

All trip units are registered in iMIS in order to allow for a unified banking account to be opened for the managing of the trip unit’s finances.

New trip unit creation paperwork (SG.8A/B, IT.11 forms) should be sent to our Travel Assessor at nl-safeguidetravel@girlguides.ca The Travel Assessor reviews the forms and then sends them to National, who register the trip in iMIS and replies to the Travel Assessor. The Travel Assessor then forwards to the Responsible Guider.

As you move forward in developing your plans you will need to continue to be in close contact with and the Travel Assessor for approval of your plans.

Provincial Travel Fund

The Provincial Travel Fund is designed to assist girl and adult Members of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador with travel expenses to Guiding events in our province and beyond.

For any questions, please contact the NL International Adviser at nl-international@girlguides.ca or the NL Travel Assessor at nl-safeguidetravel@girlguides.ca
