  • Nyeri- a self-contained area with kitchen shelter and tenting fields
  • Pathways- self-contained area with dining shelter and tenting fields

Wheelchair access is limited- please inquire if more information is needed.

Shared Amenities

If more than one group is at camp at once, some spaces/items should be shared. Remember to share and be a friend! The following are shared amenities:

  • Baden-Powell Lodge: building deck, dryer, freezer, and common room with fireplace (in inclement weather), firepit located by the BP Lodge ramp, and various amenities in the cupboards in the large dining room are to be shared between Baden-Powell Lodge and Pixie Glen users.
  • The 100 Year Legacy Gazebo is part of the Nyeri site but can be shared by groups on other sites if Nyeri is vacant or shared by mutual agreement is Nyeri is occupied. This arrangement should be made prior to camp.
  • The Guides’ Own Circle at the Pathways site should be shared by all groups.
  • Trefoil Trails Garage Building: This building is located on the Nyeri site and has a refrigerator that is used by the groups at Pathways. It also contains other items shared by all groups at camp including bushpie irons (cleaning kit supplied)/wiener sticks, axes, and wheelbarrows.
  • The locked wood storage shed attached to the garage has firewood available for all sites with axes located in the garage and the Baden-Powell Lodge main kitchen storage cupboard. Please note that from October-April the bushpie irons and wiener sticks will be kept in the small kitchen of the BP Lodge.

Low Season Camping (October-April)

Low season camping can be done using the Baden-Powell Lodge for indoor overnights, as a base for a largely outdoor camp, or for day events. The fields and open shelters of other sites can be used with no additional cost, but these are not cleared snow. Units wishing to tent or use shelters will need to prepare the site.

The pit toilet stalls (2) by the Baden-Powell Lodge, as well as at the Pathways site (2), can only accommodate one person at a time, unless an aide is required.

The small uncarpeted dining room in the Baden-Powell Lodge (used by Pixie Glen groups during high season) can be used for sleeping (groups required to bring their own sleeping bags). Please note that capacity in this space is limited due to the storage of winter equipment, tables and chairs. The lounge can also be used as an additional sleeping area (groups required to bring their own sleeping bags.

Low season campers must haul water (eight liters per person per day, minimum) and dispose of grey water in the outhouse toilets. Garbage and recycling must also be taken off-site.

There are two pairs of snowshoes housed in the small dining room of the Baden-Powell Lodge for use by Guiders to get to the garage if the snow is too deep.

Important Note About Water at Camp

The water source at Trefoil Trails is a “sand point well”, commonly used in the region. The water quality is tested by Public Health during the camping season and has been found to be safe in the past, but Public Health has advised that water from the well at Trefoil Trails can be susceptible to contamination. In order to ensure Safe Guiding, any water being used for drinking, toothbrushing, or rinsing of food to be eaten without cooking, and any use where water is going into mouths, cannot be from the camp water taps unless treated, either by boiling (two to three minute rolling boil) or groups can bring bottled water. Many grocery stores sell large jugs of water, as well as businesses such as Culligan. Untreated tap water can be used for cooking where boiling is involved, dishwashing as part of the dishwashing process involves a rinse with bleach (instructions posted in kitchens), and general clean-up.

Telephones

There is no landline at Trefoil trails; groups must bring their own cellphones. Major carriers all work at Trefoil Trails.
