Welcome to the Road Safety Challenge, in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation, Ontario (MTO). In this challenge, you and your unit will learn various aspects of Road Safety by completing the required number of activities for cycling, pedestrian and vehicle safety. All branches for activities and program areas are suggestions – please modify as you see fit to match the personal style of your unit.
The Road Safety Challenge aims to educate and engage girls on the essential aspects of road safety, including cycling, pedestrian and vehicle safety. Through a series of interactive activities, girls will gain the practical knowledge and skills to ensure their safety on the road. This challenge promotes awareness, responsibility and proactive safety measures among our girl members.

Niagara Region, Transportation Services Guides and Pathfinders
Thursday, May 7, 6 to 7 p.m.
Hosted by Ministry of Transportation, Niagara Region Transportation Services, attendees will take part in a Road Safety Presentation and a tour of the Transportation Operations Centre. Our hosts have also planned some fun activities to go along with the theme of the day.
Parking: The gates will be open and parking will be in the lot in front of the building.

Cornwall
Cornwall Civic Complex – Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers
Saturday, May 23, 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Join this interactive bike safety event being run by the East Region, Public Outreach and Education Office of the Ministry of Transportation. It is mandatory that participants bring their bikes and helmets. If participant cannot ride a bike, they may bring a scooter and a helmet.
Activities:
Education on cycling, pedestrian and a little bit about rail safety. We'll review things such as:
- Proper helmet use
- What is legally required on a bicycle and what you can add for extra safety
- How to communicate with vehicles
- How to walk and cycle defensively and without distractions
- How to safely cross rails
Additional Information:
- A child car seat inspection clinic will take place at the same time and location. This clinic will be by registration only.
- A BBQ will be offered by the Stormont Optimist clubs at caregiver cost and is optional.

Ottawa
Immaculata High School (Cafeteria)- 140 Main Street, Ottawa – Pathfinders and Rangers
Friday, May 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
This is an opportunity for Pathfinders and Rangers to earn their Road Safety crest. Participants will learn some basic bike maintenance, how to adjust a helmet, how to plan a safe route to walk or bike to school (or other locations), the importance of avoiding distractions while on the road and more!
Participants are encouraged to eat before arriving, and to bring a water bottle or small school safe snack if needed.
Instruction will be provided by staff members from EnviroCentre, as part of the City of Ottawa’s Cycling Safety Awareness Program.
