Pathfinders
Pathfinders
range from 12 to 14 years of age. Their program theme
is "For Fun and Opportunities". This branch
of Guiding was created in 1979 for girls who are ready
to venture into a wider world of discovery, challenge
and service. All members of the Pathfinder Unit have
an equal voice in all decisions whether large or small.
A member of the Unit may take on specific responsibilities
such as telephone convenor, social convenor, secretary,
photographer, treasurer or chairperson.
Working together provides opportunities to learn and develop
attributes such as co-operation, communication, consideration,
concern, commitment, companionship and confidence. The
Guiders in the Unit are there to guide the girls along
the paths of self-discovery and self-reliance. The program
is composed of seven Emblems: Be Prepared, Camping, Community,
Home, Leadership, Outdoors and the World. The last six
of these consist of three levels each; bronze, silver and
gold. The Camping and Leadership Emblems involve a progression
of skills.
The other Emblems offer a wide range of choices of challenges
which are evaluated by the members of the Pathfinder Unit.
The challenges may be done as a group or as individuals,
depending on the interests of the girls. When the Be Prepared
Emblem, the Gold Camping Emblem or the Gold Leadership
Emblem and the Gold level of all the other Emblems has
been achieved, a Pathfinder will be awarded the Canada
Cord. The Pathfinder Program is firmly based on the Guide
Promise and Law.
