October 21 Campfire Leaders and Coordinators needed!
We want to ensure that all our Members are able to attend a campfire to celebrate the 100th Guiding year in Canada and your help is needed. Two types of roles are available:

1.Campfire Coordinator – work to suggest and book a facility as well as contact a local dignitary to attend
2. Campfire Leader – responsible to host the evening, lead the campfire and ensure that the number of people in attendance is tracked

Some Community Coordinators are in place and we would help coordinate efforts to ensure there isn’t duplication of effort. Looking forward to hearing from you!


Girl Advisory Forum
Are you a girl Member age 15-17 or do you know one?
Now it the chance to have a voice and join Ontario Council's Girl Advisory Forum. There are nine positions available for 2009-2010! The Forum provides girls aged 14-18 from across the province with a chance to shape the future of Guiding in Ontario. Pathfinders, Rangers and Trex members are all welcome to apply. The innovative, enthusiastic, dedicated girls selected will assist Ontario Council with it's decisions about long-term goals, program challenges, trips, events, and more; will share their opinions and those of other girls in Guiding with Council; and will meet October 17-18, 2009in Toronto for a weekend of sharing, learning and fun. Girl Forum members communicate by e-mail a few times a week, meet in person at least once a year, and conduct focus groups with other girls once or twice a year. Ontario Council encourages all girl members who will be 15-17 by January 2010 to apply, whether they've been in Guiding for 14 days or 14 years! Guiders, please ensure that every eligible girl who was in your Unit in 2008-2009 knows about this opportunity and that every interested girl receives an application form. Deadline to apply: July 6, 2009

Finance Specialty Communities
Are you a ‘numbers’ person? Do you have good communication skills? Do you enjoy working with adults? We need your expertise for 3 new specialty communities.

* Finance Support Community – to provide support for Unit Guiders in the use of the centralized banking system and to assist in resolving financial questions and issues that may arise at the Unit level

* Unit Financial Review Community – if you have accounting/bookkeeping training your assistance in conducting year end Unit reviews is needed

* Finance Extreme Specialty Community – when major problems arise, we need assistance to investigate and resolve the issues.

We would like to congratulate Amy Porteous, Ontario’s Deputy Provincial Commissioner (Girl Forum) on her election to the position of Deputy Chief Commissioner (Governance). Amy took on her new role at the National AGM held in Halifax on June 6. Thank you for the awesome job you did as part of Ontario Council and in particular in your role as mentor to the new Girl Forum. Best wishes as you begin your new Guiding adventure!

Thank you also to Jennifer Bedard, Robin Harding, Carla Lyon, and Shari Steffler who have completed their terms as Elected Members of Ontario Council. Each has contributed her time and talents in untold measure to help support and grow Guiding. You will each be missed!

On July 1, Sarah Ashwood (Port Perry), Laurie Forbes (Thunder Bay), Chris Motsch (Walkerton) and Mandy Thompson (Hamilton) began their terms as newly elected members of Ontario Council. Congratulations and welcome!
